The Importance of Emotional Health

What is Emotional Health

There is so much emphases on physical and mental health, but I feel like Emotional health is often overlooked. Emotional health is vital for a fulfilling life. It influences our thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. Yet so often we suppress our emotions. We hide our sadness, mask our anger, diminish our joy, and dim our happiness so we are not ‘too much’ for the world around us.

Emotions are more important that many people think. Not only do they help us navigate life but they have direct impacts on our mental and physical health. For example, anger is a tool to let us know when boundaries have been crosses or we have been disrespected. Joy shows us where our passions lie. Grief shows us a loss of something we valued.

Long-term anger raises the blood pressure, which can cause heart problems and strokes. Extended grief can cause digestive issues and depression. Happiness lowers the blood pressure and contentment allows the muscles and nervous system to relax.

By prioritizing emotional wellness, individuals can enhance their quality of life and foster personal growth.
